The ElasticBox team is gathered at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas ready to proudly announce the launch of the ElasticBox Developer Edition in beta.
I’m Alex Scialom, product manager at ElasticBox for the Developer Edition. As a developer, I frequently host my applications in the cloud. But each time I push a new application live, I face the same problems: there’s a lot of Googling, copying and pasting, waiting for software to download and install, and dealing with compatibility issues. Finally, after tweaking for hours, the application goes live.
It’s difficult enough just to get my virtual infrastructure up and running. And when I am tempted to experiment with a new cloud provider, a different configuration, or a new service–to make my apps perform better or more cost effective to run–it feels like starting all over again. I have to relearn provider tools and go through the same process of trial and error.
When I first saw ElasticBox help enterprises innovate in the cloud, I immediately wished the platform were available to me as a developer. Because ElasticBox allows enterprise developers access to a predefined catalog of applications and services that they can easily assemble, reuse, and deploy in just a few clicks.
Long ago, as a very early employee at Box, I helped develop their enterprise product strategy. I saw firsthand how Box provided efficiencies for enterprises and consumers alike, and built an amazing freemium business model around it. At ElasticBox, we’re working to provide similar efficiencies to enterprises and developers by removing friction in the cloud application development process, and it only makes sense to offer our Developer Edition for free.
Our team thoughtfully architected this new version with developers in mind. The result is a beautiful, flexible, easy to use platform that will let you choose a stack, choose a provider, and deploy your application in just a few clicks.
Today is just a beginning. After you sign up, you’ll see your account pre-loaded with boxes ready to use: application frameworks such as Rails, Django, Hadoop, and Node.js; databases such as PostgreSGL, MySQL and MongoDB; data stores like Redis, and Memecache; web servers such as Apache, NGINX, and Tomcat, and many more to come. If you can’t find a box that fits your needs, you’ll be able to edit an existing one, or create yours from scratch. You can pick a cloud provider to deploy to (right now just AWS–it’s AWS Re:invent after all). To make it even easier to deploy, we integrate with GitHub so you can access your code and deployment recipes directly.
Give the ElasticBox Developer Edition a try and help shape the direction our product is taking.
